Peace2Peace is a bi-communal project to set up installations made with a traditional Cypriot form of crocheting, called smili. The event will last for 14months. Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot women will come together and create jointly, going beyond prejudices, misconceptions and stereotypes they might have towards each other. The traditional craft of smili has been selected because it is one of the most famous Cypriot folk crafts, and acts as a metaphor for the “knitting together” people and social groups through an everyday art.
The programme will be set up in different locations in Pafos and will be completed in Mouttalos with the final installation, delicious gastronomic surprises and further bi-communal activities, as well as the presentation of a brief documentary on how the project will have unfolded. The project is coordinated by Christiana Mouzouri and Nilgün Akin. Curated by Elena Daniel.
