THE ALIEN TRAIL Making an obscure part of our society visible
Pafos has always welcomed foreigners from all over the world, many of whom have been assimilated into its society. There are also those who remain invisible and anonymous, still in the status of the immigrant. Following their traces, this project aims at bringing them to light and fostering their social assimilation. The Alien Trail is a project created by Nicolas Iordanou, in order to bring awareness of the refugee and migrant population in Cyprus. It is a project that aims to examine and present these minority groups to the Cypriot society so as to be seen, understood and to be accepted.
Important European photographers will wander in the neighborhoods of Paphos and other cities and will record the adventures of a world unseen. With the collaboration of anthropologists and educators, the project attempts to illuminate the faces of strangers and of those who stay in the shade, and to contribute through photography, to their true integration into society.
The participating photographers in the exhibition are Nikos Economopoulos / Magnum from Greece, Antoine d’Agata / Magnum from France, Bieke Depoorter / Magnum from Belgium and Nicolas Iordanou from Cyprus.
In the project also participate, artist / filmmaker Sylvia Nicolaides, anthropologist Nadina Christopoulou and educator Tereza Markidou.
The photography exhibition is curated by Nicolas Iordanou and Sylvia Nicolaides.
