Elysium Hotel – The Soul of Cyprus
Discover the Elysium…
Elysium, a heavenly experience here on earth… a place of delight and eternal bliss.
Where unique experiences impress you again and again…
The location near one of the most renowned archaeological sites, the Tombs of the Kings adjacent to the hotel, indicates that in ancient times this was considered a headland of significance, valued for its spectacular views of the sun setting into the sea.
Designed along palatial lines, the Elysium in Paphos invites you to enjoy unforgettable moments in an environment of ultimate serenity with uninterrupted sea views.
Surrounded by extensive landscaped gardens with water features, pools, an amphitheatre and its own sandy cove, it extends a feeling of wellbeing and indulgence. Every detail is an example of artistic and insightful craftsmanship, incorporating stone, marble and timber features that enhance furnishings reminiscent of local history and heritage. The moment the Elysium comes into view, you will note its sturdy drawbridge through a medieval arch, leading you to the inspiring colonnaded reception area. Images of the past come to mind, from the days of Byzantine prosperity to Greek, Roman, Medieval and Venetian glory.
A tour of the hotel is a journey of exploration… take in the warmth of muted earth colours throughout the sweeping areas, and allow yourself to wander, as you detect intricate mosaics, romantic arches and impressive columns.
The Gardens:
Visit the hotel’s grounds, and you will soon be drawn to the landscaped gardens with direct access to the Tombs of the Kings. The scents of jasmine, citrus, olive trees and an array of shrubs and flowers fill the air, settling in the outdoor amphitheatre, where stepped seats provide views to the sunset, and a lavender-lined path beyond will lead you to the sea. A charming rotunda with hydro-pool highlights the sparkling multi-level swimming pool. Venture down to the beach, and you will discover the shoreline pedestrian path that winds its way right down to the Paphos harbour.
The Life-giving Source Chapel:
One of the Elysium’s special features is a demure Byzantine-style chapel, which many romantics choose for their wedding ceremony. Located next to a beautiful ‘break-out’ garden adjacent to the Basilica Grand Hall, the Chapel can accommodate up to 40 guests indoors. To plan the celebration after the service, our banqueting department is by your side offering valuable advice and hands-on assistance that will make your wedding simply perfect.

The Muses
These Greek deities of art and inspiration are among the most familiar of the ancient divinities. Originally only three muses were referred to. Only much later was it agreed that there were the nine we know today. According to most authors they are the daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Mnemosyne (goddess of memory), although this view is not unanimous.
The most accepted myth is as follows:
After the gods defeated the Titans in their epic battle, Zeus was asked by them to create divinities who would be capable of leading a celebratory victory feast. To fulfil their wish, Zeus bedded Mnemosyne for nine consecutive nights, whereupon, in due time, she delivered the nine daughters who were to become the Muses. The Muses were not always harmonious, joyful and carefree. Like most of the other gods, they could be vengeful when warranted.
The Romans identified the muses with certain obscure Italian water-goddesses, the Camenae. When songs appeared at the time the Muses were born, some men were so overcome with delight that they sang without interruption, forgetting to eat and drink, until they eventually perished. These dead men were transformed into locusts with a gift from the Muses allowing them to sing continuously from birth until death, without the need of sustenance. When they die, the locusts return to the Muses to report who on earth honours each of them, endearing a worshipper to the Muse he follows. It was common for ancient schools to set up a shrine to the Muses called ‘mouseion’, the root of the modern word “museum”. The famous Museum of Alexandria, founded by Ptolemy I, was a temple dedicated to the Muses. Before poets or storytellers recited their work, it was customary for them to invoke the inspiration and protection of the Muses.
