Europe Square and Zeno of Kition Statue, Larnaka
1. Europe Square named to honour the European Union, the square includes the first colonial buildings the British Administration built in 1881. The customs warehouses and the customs officer’s and chief port master’s bureaus have been restored to accommodate the Municipal Art Gallery, the Historic Archives Museum and the Larnaka Municipal Cultural Services. The old colonial warehouses won the Europa Nostra Award in 1996.
2. Zeno of Kition Statue Great philosopher born in Larnaka (ancient Kition) in 334 B.C. Founder of the Stoic school of Philosophy. He was the first to divide philosophy into logic, physics, and ethics. He taught that ”the purpose of human existence is the virtuous life, which is the life in accordance with nature.
