The Press Museum of the Cyprus Journalists Union features a variety of exhibits depicting the history of Newspapers in Cyprus since 1878 (when the first Cyprus Newspaper was published).
The museum calls on all citizens who posses material relating to the history of printing and publishing in Cyprus to help us enrich our collection.
Recently we where clad to accept to items of particular interest. One of them is the first and last page of the last edition of ELEFTHERIA newspaper dated 20 July 1974 as set to be printed. That edition was never put out because of the Turkish invasion that followed the coup. The publishers of ELEFTHERIA announced the suspension of their newspaper until turkish occupation troops leave Cyprus.
The second item is the newspaper’s emblem at the entrance of its offices. The donation was made by Mr. Nikos Shiakolas president of the Shiakolas Group of Companies, present owner of the buildings which housed the offices and printing facilities of ELEFTHERIA.
