Sotira Teppes in Limassol
The Sotira neolithic settlement in Limassol, is located on a hill 5km from the coast. It dates back to the ceramic neolithic period. It is estimated that it housed 150 people. In 3.930 AC the settlement was expanded to accomodate more people and the whole of the hill was cover with houses.
The houses were built with stones and other materials including cane.
The architecture reflects innovations which are also observed in the burial habits. In the field of architecture the formerly round rooms became square.
Also, dead members of the family began to be buried in cemeteries instead of within the houses. These changes are attributed to foreign immigrants who setled in various parts of Cyprus in the 5th millenium AC.
