Vouliagmeni Lake A Geological Phenomenon Video
Vouliagmeni Lake is a hidden natural treasure in the heart of Athenian Riviera.
It is a rare geological phenomenon. Its current spectacular shape was probably created during the Hellenistic years of 323 – 31 B.C.
It is assumed that a huge volume of hot water was running inside a cave and eroded the walls, which caused the roof to collapse and submerge. This created the lake and gave it its present name as well as the area’s name– Vouliagmeni, from the Greek word ‘’vouliazw’’, which means to submerge. The lake’s depth is about 50 to 100 meters.
Vouliagmeni Lake is officially a Natural Thermal Spa. Its brackish waters are continuously replenished by both the sea and underground thermal springs, so it is rich in salts and minerals. The healing properties of the natural springs are the synthesis of the unique elements and the high-water temperatures of the lake, which can reach 22 o in winter and 29 o in August.
Swimming in the lake is more than pleasurable, it is a holistic experience that stimulates the swimmers’ energy and balancing wellness on many levels. The lake’s water heals dermatological, gynecological and muscle problems.
The lake’s natural ecosystem includes the Garra Rufa fish, also known as spa fish. The Garra Rufa fish nibble on dry, scaly skin, which feels like a relieving massage in warm water. This cleansing of dead skin results in noticeable.
Vouliagmeni Lake is only 40 minutes from the city center by metro and bus connections. Access is also easy from the airport. It is possible to visit the lake after a visit to Acropolis, or enjoy it as the last stop before flying home.
