Summer in Belfast is one exciting season to look forward to. In June 30, 2012, look forward to witnessing the Land of Giants. It is a 45-minute show involving a cast and crew of 500 to entertain 18,000 spectators. It is being staged by the Giant Events Company that will treat everyone to a spectacular event to showcase the best of Belfast. Expect a state-of-the-art digital animation, fireworks, dramatic special effects and gravity defying aerial performances. The Land of Giants will be performed on an almost 200 meters long stage on the Titanic Slipways. Book tickets at £10 for an adult, £6 concession and £28 for family. Kids under 5 are free to watch. Be there by 10PM as the show starts at 10:15PM.
Celebrate the summer on June 22’s Summer Festivals. The event lasts two days, with day one starting at 4PM and day two at 1PM. Go to Down Royal Racecourse to witness the Lisburn Road Rave Evening on day one and the Magners Ulster Derby Day on day two. Entrance fees range from £12 to £22.
The Orange Fest on July 12 celebrates the 12th of July with a blast. The event is a family friendly pageant which is open to all. The event particularly welcomes tourists and the multi-cultured population in Belfast to participate in the event. It starts at 8Am at the Belfast City Hall at Donegall Square. Everyone is free to attend.
Finally, summer isn’t complete without a Sunflower Fest. On August 17-19, the Belfast Sunflower Fest of 2012 will take place at Lisburn Street, Hillsborough. After last year’s success at Tubby’s Farm, Cabra Road Hillsborough where 3,000 participated and hundreds camped for the weekend, this year’s Sunflower Fest is expected to be bigger and better. The event will feature new venues, acts and performances. International and local music, art and poetry as well as comedy and the spoken word will treat festival goers. In addition, treats for the family and kids include delicious local food, workshops, therapies and quirky art and craft stalls that everyone would definitely enjoy. Fees for Singles Camping Area is £52 while Family Camping is £52 per adult family member (13 years old and over). Kids under 12 years are free but only a maximum of two per family.
