With the contracts recently signed for the spectacular revamp of the Larnaka port and marina, an impressive new ship sculpture on the port roundabout is heralding the future face of the area.
The modern sculpture of a ship with sails is nearing completion, and all that remains is for the landscaping of the roundabout to be completed, which is estimated to be ready by the end of November.
The giant ship sculpture is the work of the Town Planning and Housing Department and features a fountain and stunning night lighting – both of which are already in action and making an impact. In the evenings when the lighting comes to life, the ship is depicted as sailing on blue waters, something that is symbolic of the town’s coastal history.
The towering ship can be seen from a great distance all around the area and is sure to become one of Larnaka’s defining landmarks. It is significant as it represents how important the new port will be for both Larnaka and the island as a whole. Once completed, the port will become the main passenger port of Cyprus and will be able to accommodate large cruise ships, and potentially serve commercial vessels, as well as creating many new jobs and boosting the economy.
